Measurement of Ph, Pco2, and Standard Bicarbonate on Samples of Capillary Blood.

چکیده
A simple technique for the collection and equilibration of capillary samples of blood is described for the measurement of pH, PCO(2), and standard bicarbonate by the interpolation method. The possible errors of collecting blood in open-ended capillary tubes containing wet heparin are examined. The method has proved to be accurate, providing the technique is strictly adhered to, and has proved especially valuable when frequent estimations have been required.

Correlation of simultaneously obtained capillary, venous, and arterial blood gases of patients in a paediatric intensive care unit.
AIMS To investigate the correlation of pH, partial pressure of oxygen (PO2), partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PCO2), base excess (BE), and bicarbonate (HCO3) between arterial (ABG), venous (VBG), and capillary (CBG) blood gases. METHODS Patients admitted to the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) in Cukurova University between August 2000 and February 2002 were enrolled. RESULTS A tota...
متن کاملBiological variation of blood acid-base status: consequences for analytical goal-setting and interpretation of results.
Analytical, intra-individual, and interindividual components of variation have been determined for pH, pCO2, bicarbonate, base excess, and total CO2 in capillary specimens of whole blood from a cohort of 14 healthy subjects. Calculated analytical goals (SD) are pH less than or equal to 0.008, pCO2 less than or equal to 0.9 mmHg, bicarbonate less than or equal to 0.5 mmol/L, base excess less tha...
متن کاملEffect of ranitidine on basal and bicarbonate enhanced intragastric PCO2: a tonometric study.
A high intragastric PCO2 (iPCO2), determined tonometrically, is the main factor participating in a low gastric intramucosal pH (pHi) and may point to gastric mucosal ischaemia. iPCO2 might also increase, however, after buffering of gastric acid by bicarbonate; the magnitude of this effect and the efficacy of H2 blockers to prevent it are unclear. Ten healthy volunteers (20-24 years) were studie...
متن کاملComparison of blood gas values in arterial and venous blood.
OBJECTIVE To compare pH and PCO2 values of simultaneously obtained arterial, arterialized capillary, and venous blood samples and also to compare oxygen saturation (ASaO2) measured in arterial blood and oxygen saturation by pulse oximetry (PSaO2). METHODS Prospective study was done in the children admitted in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Christian Medical College Hospital Vellore, req...
متن کاملComparison of capillary and arterial blood gas measurements in neonates.
One hundred and fifty eight paired arterial and capillary blood samples were obtained from 41 sick preterm infants in their first week of life and the pH, and PCO2, and PO2 concentrations were measured. Half of the capillary samples were obtained from unwarmed heels and half from heels warmed to 40 degrees C. A potentially significant discrepancy (arbitrarily defined as 0.05 units for pH. 1 kPa...
